Engaging with Education

Research shows the benefits to young people of multiple and meaningful encounters with employers, and curriculum learning that links to jobs and relevant skills.

Careers and education bodies are constantly looking for industry professionals to help inform and inspire young people. Those working in the electrotechnical industry are in the best position to give real life stories on their career path and experiences.

As well as directly supporting young people and promoting the sector, there are key benefits to businesses, from personal development for staff, to identifying new talent and building pipelines for the future.

Your involvement could be as in-depth or light-touch as your time allows. What can you take part in? Take a look:

STEM Electrotechnical Ambassadors: as an Electrotechnical Ambassador you could hold a career talk or practical workshop for a primary or secondary school, college or youth/community organisation. Or sometimes schools are simply looking for people to act as a sounding board for future STEM events.

Careers Hubs: in England, you could work with Careers Hubs on a larger local and regional scale. You can access your local Careers Hub here.

Careers Events and Resources: if you’re organising your own activity locally but need extra support – take a look at the careers information and videos on the Electrical Careers website. We’re developing even more resources which will be available here soon.

Teach in Further Education: pass on your skills, knowledge and experience to improve students’ prospects. You don’t need a teaching qualification straight away and could gain this on the job. Find out more about Teaching in FE.

Already active in your local area?

If you are already taking part in careers promotion or working with the education network in your local region please tell us about it so we can promote the positive action happening around the country.
