Chair

Ruth is Managing Director of SJD Electrical, an award- winning, high-growth SME electrical contractor in Milton Keynes.

Ruth is a member of the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education Construction Route Panel, responsible for the approval of apprenticeship proposals, standards and assessment plans. She also helped develop the Electrotechnical trailblazer apprenticeship standard and was formerly a trustee of SummitSkills.

Ruth attends the Construction Leadership Council’s People & Skills Network, which focuses on tackling the industry’s skills needs. She attends the Government’s Construction Skills Delivery Group.

She is Chair of the ECA’s Skills Committee and currently involved in campaigns to increase employee engagement with schools and colleges and promote valid routes to achieve vocational competence.

Ruth is an alumni of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 small business growth programme and recently completed her MBA scholarship.

In recognition of her outstanding contribution to championing skills development, Ruth has been recognised in the 2024 New Year Honours list and appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to Further Education and Apprenticeships.
