As part of the TESP 2023 labour market intelligence study, TESP members JIB and ECA sponsored extra employer interviews at regional level. These have allowed us to publish a series of regional reports to complement and enhance our UK-wide findings.
These regional reports cover much of the same ground as the main report, but also highlight regional differences. TESP hopes that providing granular information will help better inform policy discussions and prescriptions in different parts of the country. The differences revealed range from the age and ethnic composition of the local workforce, perceptions of current workforce skills and the training system, and contrasting levels of capability and interest in particular types of work, including current and anticipated take up of “new” technologies.
This report uses the findings from the ECA’s engagement with the Employer Representative Bodies responsible for Local Skills Improvement Plans (LSIPs) in England, along with sector-specific data relevant, for determining the existence and size of skills gaps in the electrotechnical sector locally. JTL, the not-for-profit apprenticeship training provider, researched and supplied the data.
Following this research, the ECA has launched the ‘Future Electrical Skills’ Framework and the ‘Recharging Electrical Skills’ Charter, setting out the ECA’s recommendations and seeking commitment to bridge the electrician skills gap, accelerate the adoption of low carbon technologies, and ensure high-quality and safe installation and integration of electrical systems.
